Your products and services.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is probably the one you\u2019re most familiar with &#8211; but you\u2019d be surprised how much more there is to know about your own product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First off, look at your pricing, your different packages and plans.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you sell products, that means knowing the costs for each material. That includes your raw materials, wholesaler goods, transport, packaging and so on&#8230; everything that contributes to your product cost!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Specialise in services? You need to know how each service works, including set-up time, integration capacity, and how much you\u2019re willing to customise each aspect of your service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Your competitors<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To understand why customers choose you over competitors, you need to know your place in the market. That means conducting competitor research. Lots of it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Find out who your top competitors are based on locality, services, potential pricing. Look at their website, their social media and &#8211; providing you can get your hands on it legitimately &#8211; any marketing materials they provide to customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Your customers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I know, I know. \u201cI speak to my customers every day, they\u2019re like old friends!\u201d But your customers are (probably) far more complex than you give them credit for. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, while you probably know <em>something<\/em> about your customers, it\u2019s worth digging in and finding out as much as possible about them. Consider:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Demographics:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Age<\/li><li>Location<\/li><li>Gender<\/li><li>Education<\/li><li>Profession<\/li><li>Income<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Psychographics<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Likes<\/li><li>Dislikes<\/li><li>Fears<\/li><li>Life goals<\/li><li>Pain points<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>So, where do you find all of this? It\u2019s not like you can ask every new customer about their deepest fears. The truth is, you need to use a variety of channels. So where to start?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First off, product and service review sites are a goldmine of insights. And, if you\u2019re lucky, they\u2019ll be receptive to giving some feedback and insights.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Qualitative surveys are a great way to learn the actual language your customers use, while quantitative surveys can give you a great overview of customer attitude trends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And for those moments when you really want to go deep, you can even request one-on-one interviews or focus groups with key customers. It\u2019s an opportunity to discover more about your customers.
